Is your insurance premium as low as it could be? There are several ways that you can minimize the amount you pay to insure your home and auto.

Raise your deductibles. Standard deductible amounts are $100, $250, $500 or $1,000. By selecting a higher deductible, you can significantly reduce your premium.

When obtaining homeowners insurance, insure your home, not the land. The land that your house is located on is not at risk from theft, windstorms, and other perils. Don't include the value of the land when determining how much coverage you need.

If you're moving, look at the factors that will affect your insurance premiums. For homeowners insurance, the closer you are located to a fire department, the lower your insurance premium will be. With auto insurance, you will pay a lower rate if your commute to work is less than 15 miles.

Think about the cost of insurance when buying a new vehicle. In general, vehicles with high theft rates, poor safety records, or higher than average repair costs will be more expensive to insure. |
